POTD "No Justice"

Finally gorgeous weather! And when the fog lifts and the skies clear, let me tell you, the views are breathtaking here. Of course, this photo I took with my phone through the sunroof of my car does it absolutely no justice. Don't worry I was parked. :)

I've got to start bringing our big Canon camera everywhere we go. If I can get a better picture I will post!

POTD "The Eagle Has Landed"

Before living here I had NEVER seen a bald eagle, and now, I see them all the time! And it's not like you have to go on some long, remote hike in search of their nesting grounds. Nope! We saw this guy just hanging out at the park. Crazy how close he was. Such beautiful creatures!

A Light at the End of a Tunnel

In case you hadn't noticed my blog posts have dropped off a bit lately. That's because the amount of posts I write is directly related to the amount of hours I sleep. And Kai Guy has not been sleeping very well as of late. :) Nevertheless, I will try to get back in the saddle again.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. We've been living in a tunnel of gray skies and cool, damp days, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that light is the SUN. As much as I try to remain positive, perky Patty, the gloom and doom of an overcast sky six out of the seven days a week starts to wear on me. But the last couple weeks we've been seeing more sun and more beautiful days here on Whidbey Island. Spring and summertime here are both very mild with hardly a trace of bugs. Nothing like the blackflies that swarm you in Maine! So I am very excited to be approaching upon the best time of year here!

Saturday night I after getting Kai to bed, I decided to make a quick run to Walmart for a few Easter tidbits. BUT as I pulled out the end of our road I discovered the sun was just going down over the water. Of course, I had to make a short pitstop at the beach.

Clearly I wasn't the only one that had this idea.

It had been such a clear, gorgeous day and the sunset did not disappoint.

These sunsets over the ocean will never get old.

POTD "Driftwood Dreams"

I absolutely adore the beaches here. They are just so beautiful, and they are a driftwood collector's dream!!! (Just don't get caught taking too much. It's protected!)

We've seen a lot of beaches, living near Lake Michigan, on both coasts of the Atlantic Ocean (New England and Spain) and now here on an island in the Puget sound (Pacific Ocean). They have all been SO different but SO beautiful in their own way. AND, as a big beach comber, it's been a blast because I've been able to collect different things on each and every beach.

I heart beaches. I heart them all.

Mimi's March Visit: A Photo Adventure

That's right! Another photo adventure! Which basically means I took way too many photos to narrow it down to just a few.

I am still a little behind on my blogging, (Ok, I missed a whole year. I'm way behind.) but I figured in honor of Mother's Day, I would get the post written about my mom's recent visit.

It was a great week! We started off her trip with a bang: great weather, and a trip to the zoo (see the Mimi's arrival post for more on that).  After that first day, it we kept it relatively low-key, but still managed to squeeze a lot in! So, rather than doing a bunch of writing, I'm going to let the photos tell the story. Enjoy the adventure.

We went on walks. (Mimi couldn't walk without the "poor puppies.")

We visited the beach. (Despite cold and WINDY weather.)

We played in driftwood forts.

We smiled. A lot.

 We sang silly songs.

We did a little exploring.

We posed for pictures.

We enjoyed the views.

We ate good food.

We had a DATE night!
(Mimi stayed home with the boys so Matt and I could go out ALONE. It'd been over a year.)

Matt and I saw our first Sunset from Deception Pass Bridge.
 Amazing.
 Beer. Cocktails. Yum.
 Matt's water glass.
Damn straight I am. (Bathroom selfie.)

We had some quality mother-daughter time!
(Wine flights and bites.)

We rode ferries.

And lastly: We had a night away!

Mom had a very early (6AM) flight Sunday morning, so for her last night in town, JUST SHE AND I went into Seattle and stayed in a hotel. It was my first night away from Kai, but Matt did AWESOME holding down the fort. We had too much fun. :)

Lunch at The Pike Pub & Brewery.

Of course I had to get the sampler.

Uh oh. Mom spotted Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory!
Deciding on an apple!

We checked out the rest of Pike Place market.
 Loved. Loved. Loved it.

We walked the streets of Seattle.

At least he is honest...

We found this group singing and chanting LOUDLY in the fountain.
It entertained us for probably 15 minutes. Easily.

Speaking of entertainment. Mom and I could not have picked a better weekend to stay in Seattle. The Emerald City Comicon festival was going on. What does that mean? I'm not really sure. For us it meant streets filled with crazies dressed in spandex, fur, tall boots... and other HILLARIOUS zany costumes. We found a FRONT row seat to the main attraction in the window of a hotel bar RIGHT next to the convention center. We drank, we ate, and we laughed all night.

Her trip was too short. It always is. But we made the best of it, that's for sure. Love you Madja.
